Most people remember the classic story of Hansel and Gretel but Jewel Kats’ version brings a new twist by adding a character with Down syndrome. This new character portrays kindness, determination and wisdom, characteristics that many do not associate with someone with Down syndrome.

Both children and adults will benefit by reading this story to learn that even though someone has a disability it does not mean that they can’t do great things.  People should be viewed for their abilities not their disabilities.

The illustrations were created by fiber artist Claudia Marie Lenart.  Her work is beautiful and so unique in this children’s book.  I found myself looking at the detail on each page to appreciate all the work that was put into each creation.  For more information on Claudia’s work please visit www.claudiamariefelt.com

The book was written by award-winning author Jewel Kats.  Jewel has been recognized for her ability to write wonderful stories that focus on the world of individuals with a disability.  For more information on other books written by Jewel please visit www.JewelKats.com.
